{"id":35,"count":18,"description":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Capital Inicial<\/b>\u00a0is a\u00a0Brazilian\u00a0rock\u00a0band that flourished in the 1980s, saw a resurgence in the late 1990s, and extended into the 2000s.<\/p>\r\nCapital Inicial is a\u00a0post-punk\/new wave\u00a0band who had considerable success, having recorded seven albums from 1982 to 1996. They were a huge success in the early and mid-2000s, being one of the most popular bands in Brazil with the albums\u00a0Ac\u00fastico MTV,\u00a0Rosas e Vinho Tinto,\u00a0Gigante, and\u00a0MTV Especial: Aborto El\u00e9trico. The album\u00a0Eu Nunca Disse Adeus\u00a0was expected to be released in early 2007.\r\n\r\nFormer members of\u00a0Renato Russo's pioneering post-punk band Aborto El\u00e9trico teamed up to form the Capital Inicial, continuing to perform the same type of music. Brothers Felipe Lemos (drums) and Fl\u00e1vio Lemos (bass) joined guitarist Loro Jones (former Blitz 64) and vocalist Dinho Ouro Preto. All of them are based in\u00a0Bras\u00edlia, a city that, with its particular situation as Brazil's capital, revolves around politicians who abandon it on the weekends. The city's coldness was a choice culture for the fermentation of the aggressiveness of dispossessed youngsters, creating an ideal situation for the arousal of punk bands. With similar songs as Aborto El\u00e9trico's repertoire, the Capital Inicial followed in their path. The first time that Capital (and their sister band,\u00a0Legi\u00e3o Urbana, also erected upon the ashes of Aborto El\u00e9trico) played in Rio was on July 23, 1983, opening a Lob\u00e3o show at the Circo Voador. In 1984, they released their first single, \"Descendo o Rio Nilo\" (<i>Going Down the Nile<\/i>) and \"Leve Desespero\" (<i>Slight Despair<\/i>) (Epic), with good repercussions. The latter song was included in the film Areias Escaldantes. In April 1985, Capital Inicial succeeded in having their\u00a0<i>Descendo o Rio Nilo<\/i>\u00a0included on the compilation Os Intoc\u00e1veis (CBS). In the next year, the group recorded their first LP,\u00a0<i>Capital Inicial<\/i>\u00a0(Polygram), which had the hits \"Psicopata\" (<i>Psychopath<\/i>), \"M\u00fasica Urbana\" (<i>Urban Music<\/i>) and \"F\u00e1tima\" selling 200,000 copies. This was followed by a period of many live shows.\r\n\r\nIn 1987, keyboardist Bozo Barretti, who had participated in the album, joined the band, who recorded a second LP,\u00a0<i>Independ\u00eancia<\/i>\u00a0(<i>Independence<\/i>). With a pop-based sonority, the album sold half as much as the first. In November, the band opened for\u00a0Sting\u00a0at a packed Maracan\u00e3.\r\n\r\nIn December 1988, the group released their third LP,\u00a0<i>Voc\u00ea N\u00e3o Precisa Entender<\/i>\u00a0(<i>You Don't Need to Understand<\/i>), which was assaulted by commercialism. The album sold only 50,000 copies. Understanding that they were losing their punk rock fans and weren't gaining pop fans, in their fourth album,\u00a0<i>Todos os Lados<\/i>\u00a0(<i>All Sides<\/i>) (1990), they replaced standardized keyboards with aggressive guitars. But the change of direction came too late. The album sold a little more than 30,000 copies, and their fifth LP,\u00a0<i>Eletricidade<\/i>\u00a0(<i>Electricity<\/i>) (1991), barely sold 20,000 copies. This crisis provoked the departure of Barretti and Preto (who formed the band\u00a0Vertigo) and the acquisition of a new vocalist, Murilo Lima, with whom their sixth LP, the independent Rua 47, was recorded in 1994. In 1996, they recorded the live album Ao Vivo (Rede Brasil), and in 1998, Lima left the band.<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\r\n\r\nIn the late 1990s, the band made a comeback releasing an unplugged album recorded at a Brazilian MTV live concert. This album became a tremendous hit in Brazil.
